Formed in 2014
for boys and girls aged eight and upwards.
The team was the brainchild of Terri Marx and her daughter Bethany, and Charlotte Stapleton to bring cheerleading to the children of Biggleswade and the surrounding areas. Their aspirations were to compete at a national level within a year. Charlotte was Bethany’s coach at her previous team, and both had competed at national level. They took on coaching duties with Terri helping out ‘behind the scenes’ with admin.
Their all-star cheerleading teams combined elements of dance, gymnastics, jumps and stunts to create awe-inspiring routines. Naturally, this needed a lot of head-room so finding a venue that wasn’t already booked up was quite a challenge. Stratton Upper School's Recreation Centre became their home.
A cheer camp was setup on October 29 2014 from 10am to 2.30pm. Some of the girls from their previous team came along to give a demonstration of the level you can get to.
The team was officially formed on November 6 2014 with an aim to compete in their first competition in December at the Winter Wonderland. Training took place each Sunday from 6pm to 8pm for stunts and tumbles, while Wednesdays from 7pm to 8pm saw the youngsters training in dance and jumps. All sessions involved elements of conditioning to help build up stamina, strength and flexibility.
From small beginnings, where the programme started with one small cheerleading team training on two mats and has now grown to a fully equipped gym, training two cheerleading teams and seven gymnastics classes. Our teams have completed at events across the country as well as being involved in local events such as the Biggleswade Carnival.
The aim will always be to provide our athletes with high quality coaching delivered in a safe and enjoyable environment. Now with the addition of Gymnastics coach Geoffrey Coughlan and Cheerleading Coaches Emily Gill and Alexis Martella, the programme is going from strength to strength.
And the rest will be history …
